It's Official!

Dec 16th will mark the very first Evil Film School Night. It will run from 7pm to 10pm (after party pending) and admission will be by donation ($5 suggested).

It's our 3rd Annual Xmassacre and we promise, Glogg, Crappy Santa Gift Exchange, and:

Depending on how successful the Xmassacre is, we hope to make this a regular event, held the last Thursday of every month.

About Evil Film School

Long a nickname for the original Den of Sin nights, Evil Film School will be a mishmash collection of found footage, bootlegs, cinema obscura and local shorts because this city is sadly in need of an alternative film night. To contribute or make a suggestion, please email me at: evilfilmschool @gmail.com.

The (kind of) Official Den of Sin Manifesto

The Den of Sin movies nights started as a way for my husband and I to catch up on our film viewing, introduce our friends to new & unusual cinema specimens, and as a way for me to practice my programming skills.

In general, films shown at the Den of Sin are of an exploitive or trashy nature with special attention given to genre (horror, sci-fi, fantasy) movies, although we have shown classics, musicals, comedies and a drama or two. We also have a predilection towards Asian and Eurotrash, although usually we just show whatever we want as long as too many people haven't seen it before.

With Evil Film School, we will be diving further into the Trash pit with a focus on found footage and bootlegs, but we would also like to start showing more local film and we will be accepting submissions of short films of an exploitive or genre nature for inclusion in future programs.

The original Den of Sin is also the basis for my regular column of Film Threat and has inspired many crazy movie nights all over North America.

Crappy Santa Gift Exchange

This game was played at the previous 2 Xmassacres and was very well received so we've decided to let everybody play this year.

If you're coming to the Xmassacre, please bring a wrapped (important) gift of no more than $5. It's actually better if you can get away with not spending any money, as the goal is humour value. Make something. Recycle a gift. Bring something you found on the side of the road. It's all good, just as long as it will bring a smile to the face of the person opening it. Or at least those around the person opening it.

Those who bring a gift will be given a ticket which will allow them to pick another gift (not their own) out of the pile.

Highlights from previous years:

Electric scissors
The official "Friends" companion
Numerous $1 DVDs, including "Robo Vampire" and some movie w/ Linda Blair and David Hasselhoff
A hedgehog made of sticks
A box of stale "Simpsons" Jelly Pops
A beefcake calendar from 2001

How Much...

Admission to the Xmassacre will be by donation, although we are suggesting a minimum donation of $5.

This is mainly to cover operating costs, although the more "successful" we are, the more likely this is to be a continuing event.
